  Chapter 1

“The whole world is your oyster, two times the size of America, customize your house, your clothes, your life, earn real money, you can become anything you want! The world is yours, all you have to do is taaaake it! Everscape, the most popular video game in the world, join now and make a new life today!”

I step lightly to avoid unsettling the boat. Outside the corner door leading into the kitchen, I ogle him lying lopsided over the chair. Rio looked ugly while sleeping. Whipping my head around, I continue forward. One soda bottle and leftover eggs from breakfast, the fridge was kind to us mortals.

After the microwave did its magic, I took two slices of bread and soldiered up into my room. Staying up late was easy since I sleep early. It got to one point where my father would even encourage me to go outside and stop sleeping my fat into submission. Yes, he did say that. He was never subtle honestly. That and I was getting fatter.

Just not in the stomach, my arms and legs were just starting to look like pork chops. The fat was going elsewhere it seemed. Well I at least had control over one thing in my life. But the late night jumps into the wild were necessary. I usually can contact my boys from Raganork at night and I concentrate better after a nap. So I just do my homework then, while surfing the web out of boredom. The guys should be having an adventure right now, where were they again? I open the tab.

Hokour, one of the southern islands in the Gallaopse, they said they would be doing some trading to get some gear. I hope they get me something. Even though they had little reason to, a girl can hope. Wading through the forums, my account was getting way too much fan mail. I used to get at least fifty new messages a day then it rose to hundreds, then thousands. They stopped after I set the option to no messages period. So now my teammates call me or email me directly. Weird comments, marry me requests, a few threats. No matter how many times I log in it never gets old and then again, I could not even game in right now.

I had to get the a-OK from my team. I would game in when all of them were there and the situation and location was favorable to escape. People love to track me when I go online. The usual advice of taking in more members sounded nice on paper but I rather not take in a bunch of greedy weak, over reliant pests.

It has been two weeks without logging into the game, all I could do now was copy and paste some user talking about his experience against the boss in the abandoned stadium on Backa Island.

But Joshua was right, at least no one can rob me. With the staff on my person, as long as I remained logged out, I could not be robbed.

It made me think if only I had a dummy account I could just place the staff in that account until I am ready. But Everscape does not allow that, they can read your biological signature so once you make one account you cannot make a second one.

I breathe out, clicking through the clutter of the forums and conspiracy theories about the Queen of Apocalypse. I was looking for information on the new patch, what new weapons and armor might appear. What changes will be made to classes and such.

Even though I was the leader of Raganork, I cannot trust those guys with picking proper gear sets for themselves. They cosplay too much and I desire to win not just look pretty. Still, I hate being called the Queen of Apocalypse, could they not think to call me anything else? The colors blurred as I kept scrolling.

I woke, did I fall asleep? Moving slightly, the cushion of the bed absorbed me tightly. Lifting myself I look around quickly. Not sure how I reached on the bed but I can wager I was late.

  Muttering, “Phone, phone,”

I look across and spy it lying next to the computer monitor with the screen blank. I go to the phone, yup I was late.

“Damn girl, did that teacher roast you today!”

I shift as I see Vanessa and Jody came beside me. Vanessa was looking devilish in a red top and her tight dark blue jeans. While Jody was trying to look like a Lolita, black overall her white cotton blouse, the black skirt was above the knees and had some boys turning heads in the crowded hallway. With her signature ponytail, she really looked like a little girl, they should see her other form, they might not be so desirable of her then.

Kissing my teeth, I answer back Vanessa, “He is lucky he can eat roasted dinner at his home. Mom’s too lazy to make anything, I have to use the microwave on the regular.”

  “What, she busy with work?”

“She writes, that ain’t no job…she just burning Everscape day and night, not like my father can stop her.”

Vanessa laughs, Jody shakes her head as she says, “She will get bored of it soon.”

“Bored? Jody more people rushing in to join the party. What you talking about? Man I heard that actor from the The Lockdown was playing the game now.”

  “Word? Celina who is it?”

“I think it was the nerdy one helping out the woman half way through the film.”

Vanessa, “Nope, it’s the black guy, remember, he owns that place that the lead actor Bran Lester went to.”

  “Oh,” We said in unison.

“Can’t remember his name… oh yo, what business you doing Celina?” Vanessa abruptly asked.

Honestly I rather not think of it. The teacher gave us a project where we had to start a business, and document and report on its success and failures. We must return to him at the end of the semester. With only four months to go in my last year, it had to be asked whether I was going to come out of this school with anything.

My grades were good it was not like I was a failure.

“I am doing a lemonade stand.” Vanessa said with a wry smile.

Jody ogled her, “Really? You could not come up with anything better?”

  We entered the next classroom.

Vanessa tightened her lips, “I am trying to avoid all the complicated stuff, I just want my ‘C’ then I can go to bat with that.”

Time passes by fast. Here I was in my last year, I hate being reminded of it. As much as dislike school, it carried me for so long and such good memories, I was not sure if I wanted to leave. Thinking of this was irritating, I need clarity.

“Celina?” Vanessa said slowly as if I was dumb, I looked at her meanly as she straightened. Vanessa was already seated. Jody looked at her watch, she would have to get to her class soon. Taking my cue I sat down. Why I had to suffer Vanessa’s glory so early in the morning I do not know.

“What are you doing for your project?” Vanessa asked again.

What business could I possibly start right now, I was seventeen for the sake of God. I know nothing about business. The fact that I have been doing business related classes for the past three years was irrelevant. Well, if I do this I could make some money, though if I fail, I will lose money. Great no wonder most people prefer working for bosses that they hate rather than chase their dreams, it is safer.

  “I really do not…”

Wait, didn’t I say I would do something like that with Everscape. It was very possible, even now.

  “Celina…”

“Don’t you see she hasn’t figured out what she wants to do yet?” Jody assertively asks.

“See this is why you guys will fail and I will succeed because I am a firm decision maker unlike all of you guys.” Vanessa lamented.

I sighed, “Vanessa stop feeling yourself, loan me some hotspot, I need to check my messages.”

  Chapter 2

“Man, this place is hella pretty today.” Neil utters.

I looked around and naturally could agree. Valtix was looking very pretty, Chinese lanterns, round with bright golden designs on the sides. They hung alongside the long stripes of colored paper, each tall Victorian style building was vibrantly decorated.

There was much life in the city today. The streets, all of us barely could fit and find room. The chatter was enough to remind me of the Big Apple, the hustle and bustle of New York. I never been there but I heard just as much about it from Fiona.

“Yo, this ice cream tart is great.” Joshua said. “Ouch!”

Bain laughs, “get moving you’re blocking this lovely lady’s way.” A beautiful winged woman with short black hair and white highlights passed by Joshua, Victor immediately restrained Joshua from chasing after her. Bain laughed some more.

As Alvain looked through a window at some clothing, I could easily get wrapped up in the joy and excitement of the event being thrown today. Today was the introduction of the new patch, so now all of the cities were throwing their respective celebrations. Each city was giving away a free limited edition item to one player. Joshua and Victor had already gone through all the cities in each continent. Neil had already gone through ten cities himself since I wanted the Breach Gloves. And Bain and Alvain already took their share already.

You would get it as soon as you appeared in the city. The cost for teleportation was well worth it, the items were not powerful but had interesting hacks that I already thought of manipulating. Other players saw trash, I saw treasure.

Still I was weary, I could easily pick up on the few eyes among the happy masses watching me. Damn, I can’t move outside a city without parties looking for glory. All of us were here, good thing we can afford to pay to teleport from city to city using the Teleport station. Otherwise we would have to roam outside and that is when these vultures would strike.

Joshua laid his hand on my shoulder, “you alright, you look tense. You got to loosen up you know?”

“Sorry, it is just…there are too many eyes on me.” I whisper.

Bain cuts in, “Told you to place that staff into that chest for safe keeping. No one goes down there, the bow is still there.”

“Quiet your jabber, the bow we can lose, the staff is not an option.”

“Since you are so sure of your own, go and store it into your infinity chest.”

I frown at him, “So they can rob my house, repeatedly?”

  “They already are.”

“Who is going to stop them, you?”

“Ladies, ladies, settle down,” Neil snarls at us, “Don’t worry once we get that fort we can place our stuff there, get some neutral guards and not have to sweat any of that small stuff.”

Neutral guards, yes that could work, they were pretty much monsters and creatures being tamed or hired to guard Human holdings. They were not easy to get though.

“We need gold though….” Joshua muses to himself. I spin slightly to let someone pass behind me. Alvain and Victor came closer to hear the discussion. All of us were pretty much huddled up now.

“Hey we should go to the Bastion Outlook and grab some spurs while we at it.” Joshua says randomly.

“You sure we should? They will follow us.” Bain tells him.

“We need gold, a lot of it, we just work that daily grind and make sure we are one step ahead of our enemies. When we are sleeping they are working, we can’t forget that.”

All of us had to stare at this, Joshua was actually making sense.

“Ahhh, oh that reminds me. How about we start a business?” I say.

“Uh?” That was what I got from my friends.

“There are people who make money from this game. We can do the same thing. You know, all we have to do is get that amount of gold from some form of work.”

“Like a profession? Aren’t we already doing that, I ain’t rich yet.” Alvain made a good point. I knew he was crafting custom dolls with Marric while Bain was working himself on a lot of mercenary missions.

But, “That is when we see it as a hobby, a individual hobby. What I was suggesting was that we combined all our professions and our individual skills and run this like one well oiled business machine.”

They stare at me but I could not really gauge if it was really making them see it from my point of view or not. Maybe I should explain it some more. “Think…ok, the reason I had this idea was really because of a school project right, but I initially always wanted to make this happen for myself. But I was doing it on my own that’s when I realized that I need more people. The school project came along, I saw the opportunity so…”

“What you are suggesting is impossible.” Victor said.

My arms lax downward in dismay at his negativity, Victor brought his finger to his lips.

“The biggest groups monopolize trade in this game, it is impossible.”

“Ok, let us beat those teams then.” I quickly retort.

  “Ahh,”

  “Hol
d on, at some point we have to take the fight to them. Joshua is right, we have to be one step ahead. Right now no one would expect us to do this, which makes it better.”

Victor looked back at Neil, Neil only nodded but his lips were curving upward though.

“It might work if we beat them…take their market share…” Victor said to himself.

Alvain chimes in, “We will have to look at what we can do and see where we can push our heads in.”

Neil shook his head favorably, “We will need information, got to set up a nice network for ourselves to watch our enemies.”

“We need more people, party members and a few…spies to give help from time to time, for a small penny.” Joshua sleekly said.

Bain replied, “Word, but we have to secure our backs. We need to take all our storage and move to one good location, that fortress may look ugly but we might not have a choice.”

  Opa said, “Ya…”

  I interrupted them, “Guys…”

  Everyone looked at me.

“We will talk about this later, you have the Teleportation scroll Alvain?”

  “Yup.”

“Good, let us go with Joshua’s idea, I want to fight. I want to see how many we take to hell with us before we go down. I am starting to feel like I am getting rusty.”
